Face Coverings at Schools Survey: Tell us what you think about the new rule

Secondary pupils will have to wear face masks from August 31 in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus in Scots schools.

A number of positive cases have been reported in educational facilities around the country since they were allowed to reopen earlier this month.

This has caused concern among health and Scottish Government officials, who have moved to implement the “obligatory guidance” on face coverings from next week.

Pupils from S1 upwards will have to wear coverings where social distancing may not be possible.

Masks will have to be worn in corridors, indoor communal areas and travelling on buses from August 31.

But the Scottish Government says that no pupil should be excluded from school if they do not wear one.

Education secretary John Swinney noted that children with some medical conditions will be exempt for the new rules and this ‘should be respected’.

We are asking for Record readers to take part in our Back to School Reality Survey to give their current thoughts as and how their expectations compare to the reality of returning to school.

How do you feel about this move from the Scottish Government? Do you think the timing on the announcement is too late? And do you think the new rules have gone far enough?

We’re keen to hear your views. Please take a moment to fill in the survey above and tell us what you really think about the Scottish Government’s new plans on face coverings.
