Fabregas claims Mourinho is a friend despite fractured past
Cesc Fabregas has called Spurs boss Jose Mourinho a “friend” after their time together at Chelsea.
The pair were involved in several fractious games against each other when Fabregas was at Arsenal.
But they grew close while together at Stamford Bridge, and the Spanish midfielder admits Mourinho made him feel wanted after a difficult period under Pep Guardiola at Barcelona.
“Mourinho inspired me the most when I left Barca. He told me that we had had our issues on the pitch when he was at Chelsea and I was at Arsenal and then when he was coaching at Real Madrid and I was at Barcelona, but that for him, it all ended there. We turned the page,” Fabregas told Radio Catalunya.
“He told me about his project. I had to go where I thought I would do best, the decision was mine and it didn't depend on what people said. I prioritised the professional [aspect], and today I still write to him and I consider him a friend.
“He helped me a lot at a difficult time in my career and perhaps I played one of my best seasons with him.”
Spurs could take advantage of Liverpool misfortune in title race
Liverpool’s growing injury list could prove decisive in the Premier League title race, with Tottenham one of several clubs looking to take advantage.
Jurgen Klopp’s team, despite a humiliating 7-2 defeat against Aston Villa, are just a point behind league leaders Leicester City.
But Spurs are above the Premier League champions on goal difference after an impressive start to the campaign under Mourinho.
And with a busy schedule coming up in the Premier League, the intention will be to get ahead if Liverpool are impacted by the absence of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Mo Salah and co.
Bale dismisses Wrexham speculation
Gareth Bale has laughed off claims he could join National League side Wrexham after the club was taken over by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
Following the high-profile duo’s purchase of the Welsh side this week, speculation emerged that the Tottenham star could join the club before he ends his career.
However, when that question was put to Bale, he dismissed it with a joke.
He said: “Hopefully it’s good for Wrexham – I haven’t read too much about it (the takeover), but I have heard about it.
“Hopefully they do good things for Wrexham and get them back into the football league.”
The 31-year-old, who was born in the Welsh capital, then added: “It’s a bit too far for me from Cardiff!”
