Fabio Paratici to continue Tottenham rebuild amid decision to raise funds for Jesus Corona deal

Tottenham have sprung into life in the transfer market and are now targeting a new winger, with it being reported that Nuno Espirto Santo is keen on signing FC Porto's Jesus Corona.

Corona, 28, scored two goals and created seven assists in 30 league games for the Portuguese club last season.

And according to Duncan Castles, Fabio Paratici is keeping a close eye on the 28-year-old ahead of a potential transfer swoop this summer.

Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Castles said: “Tottenham are interested in a player in Portugal, Jesus Corona, who is a right-winger at FC Porto.

“He has a year left on his contract. It’s a position Tottenham would like to strengthen if they can move out players.”

Meanwhile, Portuguese journalist Sergio Krithinas thinks that signing Corona would be an excellent move for the north London club.

Speaking on the same podcast, Krithinas said: “Jesus Corona is one of the best players in Portugal over the past few years. I would say he is the best player in the Portuguese league.

“He is a tremendous, skilful player who is really strong with both feet. He can play in every position in the attack except striker…

“He could be a good player for a top team in England. If Tottenham sign him, they’re doing a great job.

“Porto is a tough seller and Corona has one year left on his contract. His buyout clause increased automatically from €25m to €40m on July 15. Porto will make it tough for anyone who wants to buy him.”

Current club manager Sergio Conceicao is a big fan of the Mexican International and labelled him 'above average' when comparing him to the world's best players.

"I feel pleased, 'Tecatito' has a lot of quality, which got him the regularity he wanted," Conceicao told FC Porto's social media back in March when the 28-year-old signed a contract extension till 2022 at the Dragao.

"What I see is an improvement, emotionally at the moment he's more stable, calmer even.

"We have a quality player that's above the average, and we at FC Porto are celebrating."

Only having one year left on his contract, has left Corona's future in an uncertain state, with Tottenham the latest club linked to the winger.

London rivals Chelsea had been touted as a possible destination, but their interest last summer didn't come to fruition as they opted for Moroccan winger Hakim Ziyech instead of the Mexican.

The Porto forward's agent Matias Bunge has revealed in the past that he has had contacts with many clubs already for his client, with Seria A a possible destination.

He told Calciomercato.it back in March: "There have been contacts with Inter in the past but, in reality, I can say that there have been contacts with all the top Italian clubs that could afford the transfer fee of Corona.

“Corona is 28 and he is very hungry for glory.

“At the end of the season we will carefully analyse whether to renew his contract or not.”

With the club seemingly closing in on young Sevilla winger Bryan Gil coupled with now planning a swoop for Corona, the club will need to raise significant funds to conduct transfer spree.

One player who could be sacrificed to finance this activity is long-serving midfielder Harry Winks.

According to a report from The Times, Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to cash in on Harry Winks this summer.

The 25-year-old struggled to get game time under Jose Mourinho last season and lost his place in the England squad as a result.

Rumours circulated that new manager Espirito Santo was keen to give Winks a second chance to prove himself and stake a claim in the first eleven, but this doesn't seem likely anymore with the Times stating that the English midfielder doesn't have a future at the club.

The report alleges that the North London club have put the midfielder up for sale and are prepared to listen to offers.

Spurs academy graduate Winks started both of Tottenham’s pre-season games so far against Leyton Orient and Colchester United.
