Fabio Paratici's Tottenham transfer priority after the summer window has already become clear

Fabio Paratici has plenty to do at Tottenham Hotspur as he looks to transform the club after two frustrating seasons in north London.

Looking on course for a top-four finish in January after such a promising start to the campaign, Spurs unfortunately fell away and it culminated in Jose Mourinho losing his job and the team only securing seventh spot on the final day.

Now set to enter the newly formed Europa Conference League next month in the play-off round, Daniel Levy and the club will have their fingers crossed that Nuno Espirito Santo can guide the side back into the Champions League.

A big ask with their top-six rivals all set to splash the cash this summer to ensure they don't fall behind, the Lilywhites are going to have to do the same in the transfer market if there is to be a huge improvement in N17.

Strengthening at centre-back is the main priority as not even Mourinho could solve their defensive woes despite his great record of forming solid backlines in the past, with right-back, attacking midfield and upfront other areas that need looking at.

One position Paratici could do with assessing sooner rather than later, however, is between the sticks.

Set to turn 35 in December, Hugo Lloris is now in the final year of his contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and is going to need replacing at some point in the not too distant future.

While the club are open to offering the World Cup winner a new contract to keep him at the club beyond 2022, Lloris isn't getting any younger and the club must plan for later down the line as they look to form a team for the future.

Parting with the Frenchman doesn't make any sense this summer as there are other priorities in the transfer market first and foremost and it would cost the club big money to replace such an experienced player.

However, that wouldn't stop Paratici bringing in a young, up-and-coming goalkeeper who could really push Lloris and eventually take over from him if there is enough money left in the transfer kitty once their other business is complete.

It remains unclear as to when exactly his long spell at the club will come to an end but he did state two years ago that he is unlikely to finish his career at Tottenham, with a Ligue 1 return or a move to the MLS likely to be potential destinations for the final few years of his glittering career.

A player who brings so much to the club and is a respected voice in the dressing room, Lloris will be a huge loss once he brings the curtain down on his time at Tottenham.

The former Lyon man isn't the only goalkeeper to also be out of contract at the club in the summer of 2022, though.

Deputy shot-stopper Joe Hart, who is a good understudy but hasn't quite done enough to really push Lloris for his starting spot, will be one of those available on a free after only signing a two-year deal following his Burnley release.

The club will also then have to make decisions over whether or not young duo Alfie Whiteman and Brandon Austin are handed contract extensions or they are allowed to move on.

While right now Paratici has plenty on his plate as he looks to put together a squad for Espirito Santo that can compete for the top four, he's again going to have lots to do in the summer of 2022 as he looks to get the club back on track.

Not a pressing matter in the transfer market right now, 12 months down the line the goalkeeping department will be the next priority for the Italian once the 2021/22 transfer windows are done and dusted.
