Fabio Paratici planning new Spurs approach for potential Harry Kane replacement

By Danyal Khan

Fabio Paratici is planning a fresh approach to try and sign Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic who has been touted as one of the next big players that have been created and developed in Serie A.

Vlahovic, 21, was one of the main options that were touted as a Harry Kane replacement if the Englishmen would have completed his £150million Manchester City move in the summer.

However, Daniel Levy's high demands blocked Kane's exit and as a result, ended the Lillywhites' interest in signing a striker in the transfer window that has just closed.

The current campaign could be the last one for the 28-year-old at Spurs as he may seek a new challenge elsewhere if Tottenham are unable, yet again, to win any silverware.

The possibility of the three-time golden boot winner looking likely to exit N17 at the end of the season has prompted sporting director Paratici to evaluate his options early on ahead of the next transfer windows, as they prepare for life without their talismanic figure.

Consequently, Vlahovic's name has come up once again fters the Serbian decided not to push for a move away from Fiorentina.

He said when asked about his long-term future after the transfer window ended: “I said many times that I decided to stay in Florence, nobody else had to decide for me.

"When the coach arrived, and the squad we put together, it’s good. At the end of the season, we will see if it proved to be the right decision, but I followed my heart. I am young, my moment will come and I just need to continue working like this.”

Nonetheless, despite this admission, his words haven't ruled out a potential exit from the Serie A club who nearly sold their talisman to Atletico Madrid after the two clubs were locked in talks in the latter stages of the window.

Italian outlet Calciomercato are reporting that the Premier League club plan to make a ‘new assault’ to sign the striker. It’s said he is the ‘number one goal’ for Spurs next season.

Unfortunately for Paratici and co., Fiorentina are reportedly in the process of negotiating a contract extension for the player who is only being valued at up to £35m by the CIES Football Observatory.

“I have said several times that I decided to stay because I felt like it, also for the group that was created with the coach – he said after the success in Bergamo,” Vlahović was quoted as saying by Sport Witness via La Repubblica.

“We will see at the end of the year if it was the right choice, I think so because I listened to my heart.

‘I have to keep working hard, the rest will come. Renewal? We are talking, I can only say this.”

Despite the enormity of the task facing the Spurs hierarchy in trying to convince the young Serie A starlet in not committing his long-term future to the Italian-based club, if his stats are anything to go by then Nuno Espirito Santo's side need to do all they can in this transfer pursuit.

After 21 goals and two assists last season, he started this new 2021/22 campaign on a bright note, with five goals in four matches across all competitions.

According to FBref.com, his xG (expected goals) so far this season is the 4th best in the league as it is currently standing at an impressive 2.1 per game.

No one will be able to fully replace Tottenham's current No. 9 but the 21-year-old's signature could go a long way in helping fans move on from the Kane era if the seemingly inevitable eventually happens.
