Fabio Paratici can complete 18-month transfer mission for Tottenham with signing of Roma star

Fabio Paratici may finally be able to complete the signing of long-term transfer target Nicolo Zaniolo at Tottenham.

Spurs have been linked with a move for the Roma midfielder in the past, with some reports even suggesting that they had more than one approach to sign him rejected by the Italian club.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano last year, he was never a priority for former Tottenham boss, Jose Mourinho, but the club’s interest in him remained clear.

Mourinho is now Zaniolo’s head coach at Roma, and the 22-year-old has been playing regularly under his new boss since the Portuguese arrived in the Italian capital.

However, during his time as the Chief Football Officer with Serie A giants Juventus, Paratici also monitored Zaniolo closely.

Given that Spurs have been interested in bringing him to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium before, Paratici may well be encouraged to go back in for the midfielder and perhaps finally get his man.

Spurs’ new Director of football has already made a huge impression in north London as he was largely responsible for helping to shape the start of Nuno Espirito Santo’s new project at the club.

The deadline day signing of Barcelona full-back Emerson Royal added to four other summer arrivals in Atalanta duo Pierluigi Gollini and Cristian Romero, as well as Bryan Gil and Pape Matar Sarr – the latter of whom has returned to Ligue 1 Metz on loan for the following season.

Meanwhile, Cameron Carter-Vickers signed for Celtic on a season-long loan on the final day of the season, whilst Tottenham agreed to end Serge Aurier’s time at the club after the defender asked for his contract to be terminated.

They followed several other stars through the exit door at Spurs this summer, as the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Joe Hart, Moussa Sissoko, Juan Foyth, Paulo Gazzaniga and long-term servant, Erik Lamela, all departed in permanent transfers.

It’s fair to say that Paratici knows how to close a deal, and if Spurs do want to sign Zaniolo in the future, they have someone who is ready to help get him.
