Fabio Paratici and Tottenham can exploit Barcelona's financial woes with three transfer deals

Tottenham fans are hoping Fabio Paratici can work his magic in the transfer market this summer ahead of a huge season for the club.

Missing out on a Champions League place in each of the past two campaigns, big changes need to take place in north London if the team are to get back to their previous heights.

Incomings at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium are a must, while outgoings also need to happen as the whole squad needs a refresh and a handful of players need to move on elsewhere for a fresh challenge.

Paratici and new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo will be working closely together at Hotspur Way to get deals over the line and all connected with the club will be hoping they are signed off sooner rather than later.

One club Tottenham's new managing director of football could target is Barcelona.

The Spanish giants have huge financial issues and need to knock £156million off their existing wage bill, thus meaning players are going to have to be sold to help address their current woes.

Barcelona have been busy in the transfer market so far this summer with the additions of Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia on free transfers, with Emerson joining from Real Betis for around £7.8m.

However, Goal report that the club cannot even register any of their new signings at present due to their financial plight.

So, amid the Spanish side's troubles, football.london takes a look at Barcelona players Paratici and Tottenham could potentially target as they look to add to their squad.

Miralem Pjanic

One player who Tottenham have been linked with over the past week is Pjanic.

The midfielder only joined Barcelona from Juventus last summer but a move away after only one year in the city could be on the cards.

Only featuring 19 times in La Liga, a report in Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo has claimed that the Bosnian can leave the Camp Nou on a free transfer as they are that desperate to get his wages off the books.

Maybe not the right age for Tottenham given he turned 31 back in April, Pjanic is someone that Paratici knows very well following their time together at Juventus.

Spurs do have plenty of midfield options but Paratici may feel that the classy player can give the team something extra in the middle of the park as they look to rise up the league table once again.

Philippe Coutinho

It wouldn't be a transfer window without talk of Coutinho moving to Tottenham.

The Lilywhites have been linked with the player numerous times over the past couple of years following his struggles at Barcelona after leaving Liverpool in a £142m deal back in January 2018.

Allowed to depart for Bayern Munich on loan in 2019/20, and subsequently embarrassing his parent club in the Champions League with two goals in their staggering 8-2 win, it has been reported in Spain that he could be allowed to leave for around £21m with Barca taking a mammoth hit in the transfer market.

Crying out for a talented playmaker to take over from Christian Eriksen after failing to replace the Dane so far, Coutinho would be a good option for Spurs if they can get him on the cheap.

The 29-year-old quite clearly still has the quality in the locker but he just needs to find the perfect club once again after failing to recapture the form he showed at Liverpool.

He could turn out to be a bargain for one side given he's surplus to requirements at Barca.

Ricard Puig

Puig will be a name familiar to a number of Tottenham fans following transfer links with the club in the past.

A player Mauricio Pochettino was believed to be keen on back in 2018, the midfielder remained at the Camp Nou amid talk of a switch to north London and has played a bit-part role ever since.

Puig did play a total of 24 games for Barcelona last season but the vast majority of his minutes in La Liga and the Champions League came off the bench.

A talented player who can operate as a central or attacking midfielder, Puig may just need to move clubs to see his minutes in the first team increase.

Linked with a loan move to Ajax last season, Puig will have plenty of suitors if he is free to move on to help Barcelona out with their financial troubles.
