Fabio Cardoso set to complete sensational Rangers flop career revival as current boss makes Porto deal admission

Former Rangers outcast Fabio Cardoso is on the brink of completing a sensational career rebuild with a move to Porto.

The defender returned to Portugal after 12 months in Glasgow as he joined Santa Clara after a tough spell in the Scottish Premiership.

However, after joining Santa Clara the 27-year-old has rediscovered his form and is on the brink of joining one of the biggest teams in Portugal.

Santa Clara Daniel Ramos has now addressed the speculation over a £1.7m switch, conceding that he is planning for life without his key man.

Ramos told Maisfutebol: "We have to bridge the possible exit or the probable departure of Fabio Cardoso.

"Therefore, the entrance to a central. We still have, mainly, for the left wing and right wing positions, open places, probably two, three entries for these positions."

The move would see Cardoso shake off any lingering doubts over his abilities after being brought to Ibrox during the ill-fated Pedro Caixinha era.

He turned out just 18 times in the 2017-18 season as the Glasgow giants limped to a third-place finish under Caixinha and Graeme Murty.
