Fabio Cardoso recovers from Rangers flop as he secures shock Porto transfer

Former Rangers misfit Fabio Cardoso has secured a shock move to Porto after turning heads in the wake of his underwhelming Ibrox stay.

The central defender struggled mightily in Scotland with his performances as well as a horror facial injury he suffered from Ryan Bowman in a Betfred Cup semi final.

Cardoso returned to Portugal after 12 months in Glasgow as he joined Santa Clara and his recent upturn in form has earned another shot at the big time.

The 27-year-old flashed his potential at Ibrox but he was never able to become a regular starter under Graeme Murty - one key errors was when he fell asleep for Moussa Dembele's equaliser in the 3-2 defeat to Celtic in March 2018.

Porto will pay Santa Clara around £1.7m with Cardoso set to pen a long-term at the Dragao for a player who was personally identified by flop boss Pedro Caixinha to lead a new era at Rangers.

It will also see the former Benfica man join his former club's big title rivals as he looks to continue his upward career trajectory.
