Fabio Capello talks up Alfredo Morelos to AC Milan transfer as Rangers striker earns rave review

AC Milan legend Fabio Capello insists he's impressed by Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos amid heightened transfer speculation.

Ligue 1 Lille have had a bid rejected for the Colombian frontman and now appear to be happy with new Canadian international Jonathan David instead.

But after Morelos was left out of Steven Gerrard's squad against Kilmarnock on Saturday, Capello believes the team he won four Serie A titles and a Champions League with would be a logical fit.

The 74-year-old, who also managed Juventus, Real Madrid and the English national side, marked out current Lyon and former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele as another player moulded in the Scottish game that he is a fan of.

Speaking to the Sunday Post, Capello said: "From what I have seen of Morelos myself, I think he is a very strong player, both physically and technically.

"I know the club very well. Ricky Massara and Paolo Maldini (the club’s sporting and technical directors) are very good at their jobs, and if they are following him, then I am sure they consider him to be an excellent player."

On Dembele's two-goal cameo against Manchester City in the Champions League, Capello continued: "He really impressed me. You can see that he is a very strong player, and that he has grown a lot in Scotland.

"It is not easy to enter from the bench and be so decisive. He knows what he is doing and it shows that he is an attacker with a nose for goal.

"I really enjoyed his second goal against Manchester City, the one that ended the game.

"He is a great striker who has a great career ahead of him."
