Fabinho, Tsimikas, Oxlade-Chamberlain - Liverpool injury news and return dates ahead of Chelsea

Liverpool's 2020/21 Premier League season got off to the perfect start with the thrilling 4-3 win over Leeds United on Saturday.

A hat-trick from Mohamed Salah and a first half header from Virgil van Dijk was enough for the three points against Marcelo Bielsa's impressive side.

But Jurgen Klopp will know his team must improve, especially defensively, for the trip to Stamford Bridge this weekend.

Several of Liverpool's players missed the game against Leeds, so what is the latest injury news ahead of the clash against Chelsea this weekend?

Konstantinos Tsimikas

Liverpool's new signing Kostas Tsimikas was left out of the squad to face Leeds, after missing Greece’s international break opener against Slovenia due to illness the week before.

Speaking before the Leeds game, Klopp had said that the defender was in contention, so there is a strong possibility the Greek left-back could play some part against Chelsea.

“Not finally decided yet," he said last week.

“They are all in training pretty much, all of them. So we will make late decisions about that, but it looks rather promising than not.

“But we have in the moment a lot of players available, here in training. They all came back now, so not all of them will be involved even if they could be involved, that’s the situation.”

Xherdan Shaqiri

Shaqiri also missed out against Leeds after recovering from a slight muscular injury, but Klopp's admission that the Swiss international is back in training means the midfielder could be back for Sunday's clash against Chelsea.

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain

Oxlade-Chamberlain missed the end of Liverpool's pre-season after sustaining a knock to his knee during training.

The midfielder picked up the injury during a challenge in Austria and returned to Melwood to begin his rehabilitation with the club's medical team.

The former Arsenal star was not included against Leeds, and looks set to miss the Chelsea game as well.

Speaking on August 21, Klopp said: "It looks like it is very similar to what Hendo had, which keeps him out for we don't know for sure exactly how long, but for sure this pre-season he will not make a game."

Fabinho

The midfielder was left on the bench against Leeds United, but was substituted on and played a key role in Liverpool securing the late win after being taken down for the penalty.

However, it is thought the decision was purely tactical from Jurgen Klopp, and the Brazilian is likely to return to the starting line-up against Chelsea.
