Fabinho sends message as Liverpool handed injury boost ahead of Premier League clash with Leicester

The Brazilian has been missing since injuring his hamstring in the Reds Premier League win over Sheffield United last month.

The midfielder's absence since has been even more keenly felt due his ability to fill in at centre back given Liverpool's defensive crisis with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez having both sustained serious knee injuries which have ruled them out until well into the new year.

Boss Jurgen Klopp said before the international break he hoped Fabinho and fellow midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who was injured towards the end of the Merseysider derby and hasn't played since, would be close to a return to action when Premier League action resumed.

Neither were pictured as the Reds began life in their AXA Training Centre home in Kirkby earlier in the week but Fabinho was visible taking part in Friday's session.

Fabinho tweeted later revealing how glad he was to be back in action after his injury lay-off.

He said: "Missed this. Back in the field!"

Earlier on Friday, Klopp refused to rule either midfielder out of his plans for Sunday's Premier League clash against top-of-the-table Leicester City at Anfield (7.15pm kick off).

Asked for an update on availability for this weekend, Klopp said: "Hendo not, Trent not, that is clear. All the rest we will see."

With Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez also sidelined, Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams will compete for a role at centre-back alongside Joel Matip should Fabinho not recover in time.

Klopp also offered an update on Gomez, who is facing a battle to play again this season after suffering a serious knee injury with England last week.

"The surgery was successful and now he's recovering from the surgery and starting his rehab," said the Reds boss.

"He is with his family so is in the best possible place.

"We help as much as we can but for any boys who have surgery the first few days you are alone but he has his family around him."
