Fabinho's home burgled as he celebrated Liverpool's Premier League win

The home of Liverpool midfielder Fabinho was burgled while the Brazilian was celebrating the club’s Premier League title triumph on Wednesday, with jewellery and an Audi stolen from his Formby house.

Fabinho was part of the side that lifted the Premier League trophy on Wednesday night after the 5-3 victory over Chelsea, having wrapped up the title at the end of last month to end the club’s 30-year drought.

Only family members were allowed to join players inside Anfield for the celebrations as an incredible firework display and trophy ceremony took place, but it meant that Fabinho was joined by his wife Rebecca Tavares at the stadium, leaving their home vacated.

It’s understood that the home - located around 30 minutes from Anfield - was targeted by thieves between 3pm on Wednesday and 4am on Thursday morning when the occupants returned, with items of jewellery taken.

Police also said that the family’s Audi RS6 was taken, though a Merseyside Police spokesman confirmed that the car has since been retrieved in Wigan.

The 26-year-old is far from the first footballer to be targeted by thieves during a match, with Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane had his house burgled while he was playing in a Champions League match against Bayern Munich in February last year, as did Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovren in November 2018.

The likes of former England captains Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard have also been burgled in recent years while playing football in what seems to be a targeted effort on Premier League footballers.
