Fabinho injury prompts Liverpool fans to make transfer demand

Liverpool fans have demanded the club change their January transfer policy after Fabinho's injury.

The midfielder-turned-centre-back misses this evening's game against Spurs due to what has been described as a minor muscle injury.

It means Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson start in the centre of defence for the crucial game, and it is currently unclear how long Fabinho will be out for.

With Matip having struggled with persistent injuries himself and Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez both out long-term, it means fans have urged the club to change their stance on signing a centre-back this month.

Speaking on BT Sport, former Reds striker Peter Crouch admitted he was flabbergasted over the fact his old side have taken the stance they have over January transfers.

He said: " I can’t understand why they haven’t gone in for a centre-back, I really can’t.

"There was a problem before January, so you’d think they’d have people lined up.

"It’s whether they’d go big on one and spend £60-70m or whether they just do a stop-gap until the big boys are back.

"I find it hard to criticise the hierarchy or whoever is getting the players because the recruitment in general has been so, so good, so you’d like to think they have a plan but it’s flabbergasting that they haven’t done anything."

The Reds will be hoping that Fabinho is fit enough to feature in their next game after the Spurs match, against West Ham on Sunday.

If they do change their mind and opt to sign a centre-back, they have until Monday night to do so.
