Fabian Schar makes his return as he targets surprise Newcastle comeback

Newcastle United star Fabian Schar took a big step towards full fitness by starting the Magpies' Under-23 match against Crystal Palace today.

The behind closed doors clash saw the Switzerland international play in his first game since injuring his knee against Southampton in the 3-2 win at St James' Park in February.

Schar is eager to get back and play his part in securing Newcastle's top flight survival not to mention Switzerland's delayed Euro 2020 campaign.

Schar came close to taking a place in the squad for the 1-1 draw against Liverpool and now faces a dress rehearsal for a possible place in Sunday's encounter with Arsenal.

The game at Whitley Park against the Eagles also saw Christian Atsu start in the Premier League 2 game.
