Fabian Schar gives reassuring news to Newcastle United ahead of European deadline day after being linked with AC Milan

Fabian Schar has assured Newcastle United fans there should be no late scares in the European transfer window - despite the Switzerland international attracting interest from Serie A this summer.

AC Milan technical director Paolo Maldini is thought to be an admirer of Schar and a £13.5million fee has been bandied around the Italian sports pages in the last couple of months.

When asked about the possibility of any late activity, Schar told he Chronicle: "I can't do anything about newspaper writers in Italy.

"You hear so many different things.

"For me, I'm here and I'm happy. My thoughts are on Newcastle.

"I was already settled last season to be honest.

"I am happy to play every other week at a great stadium in front of the fans.

"I am glad to be a player here.

Schar insists he is enjoying life under new head coach Steve Bruce with the Toon chief delighted with his early season performances.

The Swiss ace said: "When you see the game against Spurs you can see the players are going the right way under the manager.

"We know week by week exactly what we have to do.

"We know what he expects from us.

"We will keep working like this."

Schar is now keen to focus on the clash with Watford, he said: "No doubt, this is a tough game.

"We got a great result at Spurs and we need to keep pushing like this to try to get a result at home now.

"I think we are on the right track.

"Of course, it was hard to lose on penalties but that's football sometimes.

"We've had three days to forget about Leicester now and are really only looking forward to Watford."

The United defender also does not feel that Jonjo Shelvey or Isaac Hayden needed to make any apologies to the dressing room after missing their spot-kicks in midweek.

He said: "There will always be one or two player that end up missing penalties in football.

"It is part of the game.

"It wasn't a problem and we haven't spoken about this."
