Fabian Moreau does not need surgery, could be ready for Week 1

It was quipped in the past week that Washington Redskins cornerback Fabian Moreau might miss the first few weeks of the regular season due to an ankle injury that was currently holding him out of preseason action.

Moreau was seen sporting a walking boot at one of the Redskins preseason games, and his absence from the field was allowing young players like Jimmy Moreland and Greg Stroman to try and move up in the ranks.

On Tuesday, Redskins coach Jay Gruden told the media that Moreau would not need ankle surgery as was feared and that there is still a chance that he could be ready for Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Moreau plays a nice part in the defensive secondary and is expected to rotate in with both Quinton Dunbar and Josh Norman throughout games. With him sidelined, Moreland and Stroman have stepped up, but they are yet to reach the caliber that Moreau has achieved in his time in the NFL.

No matter, if all goes well, the Redskins defense could be at full strength when the regular season rolls around.
