FA chiefs are set to suspend this season's FA Youth Cup despite many teams being in action this week.
The spiralling COVID-19 crisis has hit youth team football hard.
But many U18 teams were planning to return to competitive action for the first time this year in the third round of the competition.
Tottenham's U18s for example took on Newport County on Tuesday afternoon at Hotspur Way and won 6-2.
While Basford United were due to host West Brom on Tuesday evening.
But the tie is set to be aborted at the last minute with FA top brass intending to halt the competition this season.
It comes amid safety concerns following the government's latest national lockdown following rising hospital admission of patients suffering COVID-19 which has left the NHS is stretched.
The FA Youth Cup has been played every year since 1952 and the intention is to play out the competition later this year.
Last season the competition was won by Manchester City 3-2 against Chelsea behind closed doors in November.
The competition has previously given the likes of Wayne Rooney a chance to shine as he scored eight goals in as many games during Everton ’s FA Youth Cup run in 2002 to the final, where they lost 4-2 to Aston Villa.
While David Beckham won the competition with Manchester United in 1992 in a side including Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville.
United are the record winners of the competition with 10 triumphs and were due to take on Salford on Wednesday.
