FA to investigate after bottles thrown at Kevin De Bruyne during Arsenal vs Man City

The Football Association will investigate after bottles, cups and other objects were thrown at Manchester City player Kevin De Bruyne during their win at Arsenal.

De Bruyne had given City the lead in a top-of-the-table clash at the Emirates, latching onto a defensive mistake to send a brilliant lob over Aaron Ramsdale. Bukayo Saka equalised after a hot-tempered first half, before City scored twice after the break to secure three valuable points.

After setting up Erling Haaland to make it 3-1, De Bruyne was substituted in the 87th minute for Kalvin Phillips, and as he exited the field on the far side, he was then targeted by a number of objects thrown from sections containing Arsenal supporters as he walked around to the City bench.

Now, MEN Sport understand that the FA are aware of the incident and are set to investigate, while Arsenal are also said to be launching their own investigation.

Quoted by the Evening Standard, Arsenal said: “We are studying CCTV and if we are able to identify the culprits they will be subject to strict sanctions. This is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”

De Bruyne saw the funny side as he took to Instagram after the game with a picture of himself and the caption: 'Beer anyone?' He followed that with an image of an empty pint cup being thrown at him, and the caption: "Thanks!"

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was asked about the incident after the game but said he didn't see the incident. Pep Guardiola said: "I don't know, I didn't see. I'm pretty sure Arsenal will take the right decisions."

It is the second time in as many seasons that City players were targeted with objects thrown from the crowd at Arsenal, after Rodri was pelted with a number of objects as he celebrated his 95th-minute winner at the Emirates last season by knee-sliding in front of the home fans.
