FA talks over moving summer transfer window may impact business for Everton and Liverpool

The Football Association are reportedly holding talks with a number of associations across Europe over shifting the summer transfer window back a few months.

In ordinary circumstances, the window would have opened on the first day of June and run until September but in light of the suspension of football across the continent in March due to the coronavirus pandemic and with action set to continue throughout the summer months, it is believed the majority of clubs would prefer a delay.

FIFA will reportedly advise on the technicalities of when new windows can be set, with individual associations then able to finalise specific dates.

And Sky Sports are reporting (cited via the Mirror) that there is a consensus for Friday October 2 to be the deadline when the window slams shut.

Some leagues, such as Serie A, have already finalised their window, with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) setting the dates between September 1 to October 5.

The French Football Federation (FFF), meanwhile, have already opened their window as a result of their league being cancelled, but it is thought they are considering allowing clubs to do deals with foreign clubs between August and October.

While the financial implications of coronavirus mean it is likely the transfer window will not be as high-spending as usual, a number of teams are likely to try to take advantage of loan or cut-price deals, especially with a number of clubs looking to shift their deadwood to acquire much-needed funds.

And the likes of Chelsea have already confirmed deals to take place during the window, with Ajax's Hakim Ziyech joining them and RB Leipzig's Timo Werner likely to follow suit.

Much will depend on who seals Champions League qualification for next season, with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Wolves, Sheffield United and Tottenham all still in contention for fourth spot.
