The FA are set to investigate comments made from the touchline by Jose Mourinho after Manchester United‘s 3-2 win against Newcastle.
Mourinho cut an aggrieved figure for much of the match until his side’s three goals in the last 20 mins secured the unlikeliest victory and perhaps even the future of his job.
It’s thought that cameras caught the United boss swearing in Portuguese as he walked off the pitch whilst applauding the home fans celebrating his side’s comeback.
If that is the case then Mourinho may receive a touchline ban from the FA for using "offensive, insulting or abusive language".
The incident follows a tricky period for the Manchester United boss with bookmakers suspending bets on his departure prior to the win on the weekend.
In Mourinho's post-match press conference he claimed there was a "man-hunt" against him like which he had never seen in football.
A number of reports indicated that he would be sacked today regardless of the result on Saturday but the manner of the victory may have given him a reprieve over the international break, although many still speculate that he still won’t see out the fortnight with Zinedine Zidane a heavy favourite to take over at Old Trafford.
The win at Newcastle was Manchester United’s only victory in their last game with defeats to Derby and West Ham following drab draws with Wolves and Valencia. United are currently eighth in the Premier League and already seven points behind the top-three with only eight games played.
