Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Luke Shaw have both escaped a Football Association charge for comments they made after Manchester United's goalless draw with Chelsea on Sunday.
United were denied a penalty in the first half at Stamford Bridge when Callum Hudson-Odoi appeared to handle the ball. Referee Stuart Attwell was advised to check the incident on the pitchside monitor by VAR official Chris Kavanagh, but he stuck with his original decision.
United were furious with that call and in his post-match interview Shaw told broadcasters that Attwell had informed Harry Maguire that the decision was too controversial to overturn.
"I don’t know why they stopped [the game] if it wasn’t going to be a pen. The ref even said to H (Harry Maguire), I heard him that ‘if I say it is a pen, then it is going to cause a lot of talk about it after’, so I don’t know what happened there," said Shaw.
“H said that they got told it was a pen. He got told it was a penalty by VAR so I’m not sure what’s gone on. I don’t understand why he’s stopped. If he’s going to stop, you would think maybe he is going to give a pen, because we had the ball. We were attacking."
United clarified on Sunday night that Shaw had misheard what was said in the exchange between Maguire and Atwell.
In his post-match interview Solskjaer was asked about Shaw's comments and said: "I can't say, because that's not going to be good for him [Atwell]. Of course it is [concerning]. I don't want to cause controversy but that's not right, is it?
"It's all these outside influences, VAR talk from [Chelsea] about Harry — that's cheeky putting it on their website, that's influencing referees. You can read what they're saying about Harry Maguire, putting pressure on referees to give penalties against us.
"We've seen a manager, was it Frank [Lampard] that started it? There's loads of talk about us getting penalties when there is no doubt whatsoever.
"And now, today, we should have had a penalty. That's as clear as it is."
The FA can charge players or managers for comments that 'imply bias or attack the integrity' of match officials.
But having reviewed the comments of Solskjaer and Shaw, the governing body did not consider them to breach their rules.
