FA Cup try to go fishing with Leeds United fans on social media with Jermaine Beckford birthday post

The FA’s official FA Cup Twitter account piqued the interest of Leeds United fans on social media.

Tweeting at 2:50pm this afternoon, the account posted a Happy Birthday message to former Whites star Jermaine Beckford, who turns 36 today.

Included in the tweet, was the following message: “Happy birthday to #EmiratesFACup legend Jermaine Beckford! We couldn't help but share his most famous FA Cup goal for @LUFC  vs Kettering Town FC.”

Beckford’s goal against the Non-League minnows in 2009 prevented United from going out of the Cup in the second round.

And after the Whites claimed a 5-1 win in the replay at Elland Road, they set-up up a mouthwatering showdown with Manchester United at Old Trafford in the third round.

Beckford would once again get his name on the scoresheet in the showdown between the two, securing his side's  place in round four in the process.

And fans were quick to remind the account of that goal this afternoon, with the FA then later tweeting: “Only joking... look away now, @ManUtd fans!.”

Beckford, who enjoyed a season in the Premier League with Everton following his departure from the Elland Road club, recently spoke of his love for the Whites and how he regrets not helping them return to England’s top-flight.

“I wanted to get Leeds back to the Premier League and that was always going to be my goal,” Beckford told talkSPORT .

“For one reason or another, it wasn’t meant to be.

“It’s always been a tough thing for me to talk about because I’ve got such admiration for Leeds United and what they’ve done for me.

"I’ll be forever grateful for that. But I think that’s why I’m back working there now for LUTV because I love it so much.”
