FA Cup semi-finals: VAR replays to be shown to fans inside Wembley if referee’s decision is overturned

VAR replays will be displayed on big screens inside Wembley at this weekend’s FA Cup semi-finals.

The FA on Tuesday confirmed graphics from the video assistant referee will be shown to fans if the referee’s decision is overturned.

Replays will not be shown for all VAR decisions or while VAR is being checked.

VAR has been trialled in the FA Cup this season but there has been criticism that decisions are not always clear to fans.

The FA said showing replays on big screens will provide clarity and transparency to supporters at the games. Watford face Wolves in their semi-final on Sunday, after Manchester City play Brighton on Saturday.

The FA’s director of professional game relations, Andy Ambler, said: “The FA Cup has been at the forefront of the VAR testing process in England and this is the next step in its development.

"For this weekend’s semi-finals, if a decision is overturned we will show the usual VAR graphics on the big screen.

"This will be followed by the definitive video clip that provides evidence as to why that decision was overturned.”
