A collection of non-league managers are in the makeshift studio for the draw: two have just mentioned having the “wind at our backs for the second half” for their ties. Lovely cliche there. Up there with “let ‘em know you’re there” and “box ‘em in!”.

Every pound counts at this level, the winner of their second-round tie gets £27,000. Tidy. But football fans aren’t in this for cold hard cash, it’s the warm hug of glory that they are after. An FA Cup final at Wembley might be beyond these clubs, but they are just one (or two if they are still to play their first-round replay) from an FA Cup third-round draw against Premier League opposition. Woof.
Second round ties will be played across the weekend of 4-7 December 2015 – the lowest-ranked team remaining in the draw is Northwich Victoria, who are in the Northern Premier League Division One. They held Borehamwood to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
