FA Cup odds: The five biggest cupsets that could happen this weekend

It's FA Cup third round weekend and that almost certainly means we are going to see some Premier League clubs crash out of the competition at the first hurdle.

Traditionally one of the biggest weekend's in the football calendar, it's a fixture fraught with danger for Premier League sides that choose to rotate their starting eleven against sides from the EFL that go into the tie with very little to lose.

And there are plenty of potential banana skin fixtures for top flight sides this weekend. We've picked out the five most likely to prove problematic for the Premier League outfit.

Burnley vs Huddersfield (Saturday 12:30)

Burnley 's record in cup competitions is, quite frankly, appalling - indeed the Clarets have crashed out in the third round six times in the last eleven seasons. Sean Dyche, who will miss this game having tested positive for COVID, has never managed to steer his side beyond the fifth round and that is largely down to the fact that Burnley don't have the squad depth to cope well with the amount of changes Dyche makes in this competition.

Given Burnley's precarious Premier League predicament, don't be surprised if the hosts made wholesale changes and that could open the door for Championship promotion chasers Huddersfield who are unbeaten in their last six games.

Millwall vs Crystal Palace (Saturday 12:45)

Crystal Palace have been tipped in some quarters as a side capable of going on a cup run this year but they can't afford to take their trip to The Den lightly if they are going to get beyond the first hurdle. There is no love lost between these south London rivals and Palace are going to come under pressure from a hostile home support so confidence can't be high in the Eagles passing this tricky test given they have lost five of their last eight matches.

Only Fulham and West Brom have conceded fewer goals at home than Millwall and that solid foundation could see the Lions make life extremely difficult for Patrick Vieira's side.

Newcastle United vs Cambridge United (Saturday 15:00)

Eddie Howe's priority this season is quite obviously keeping Newcastle in the Premier League so it's likely he will ring the changes for the visit of Cambridge United.

The League One side have been hit or miss on the road this term but they put five past Cheltenham earlier in the month and they are surely going to get chances at St James' Park given the Magpies find it so difficult to keep a clean sheets.

If Eddie Howe's side take their eye off the ball they could easily come a cropper here and 12/1 shots Cambridge who have scored at least twice in each of their FA Cup matches so far this term.

Hull City vs Everton (Saturday 17:30)

On the face of it, a trip to Championship strugglers Hull does't look the most difficult of ties for Everton but the Toffees have big problems. Rafa Benitez has overseen just one win in 12 matches and his Everton side are short on personnel as well as confidence.

Everton have kept just one clean sheet in those 12 matches and that will encourage a Hull side that have scored twice in each of their last three home matches.

Grant McCann's side are uncomfortably close to the drop zone in the Championship but they have taken some decent scalps on their own patch and it's interesting to note that there has been some market confidence (now 16/5) in The Tigers since prices went up for this game.

Charlton vs Norwich (Sunday 14:00)

Norwich are the same price (9/10) to win at Charlton as Everton are to see off Hull in 90 minutes and neither Premier League outfit look bombproof options for acca backers. The Canaries are on their way to becoming one of the worst sides ever to play in the Premier League, managing just eight goals in 19 games and amassing a goal difference of -34.

Dean Smith's side won't be looking forward to their trip to The Valley where Charlton have won six of their last seven in all competitions. The League One side tend to score at home and they will fancy their chances of breaking down a Norwich defence that concedes for fun.
