FA confirms three-match suspension for Aleksandar Mitrovic following Ben White elbow

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has been suspended for the Cottagers' next three Championship fixtures after being charged by The Football Association.

The Serbian striker, who has netted 23 goals in the Championship this season, has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E1(a) after he planted an elbow in the face of Leeds United defender Ben White during Saturday's clash at Elland Road.

The game was less than two minutes old when Mitrovic threw his right arm into the face of the on-loan Whites defender.

Referee Tony Harrington took no action against the former Newcastle United man at the time, but video replays showed that Mitrovic's challenge would have been worthy of a red card had VAR been in operation at Championship level.

The FA was soon made aware of the incident and have since made the decision to ban the Cottagers star for the next three matches, which will be a huge blow to their already faint automatic promotion ambitions.

Following the investigation, Mitrovic has admitted the offence and will now miss Fulham's matches against QPR, Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest.

It is not the first time that Mitrovic has been guilty of such an offence, as he was banned for three matches back in 2017 after elbowing West Ham United midfielder Manuel Lanzini off the ball.

This decision will offer some comfort to Leeds, who were quite rightly disgusted by the challenge at the time.
