This year’s Community Shield will take place on Saturday 29 August, the Football Association (FA) has announced.
The match will see Premier League champions Liverpool take on the winners of Saturday’s FA Cup final between Arsenal and Chelsea, and it will be played two weeks before the new English top-flight season is scheduled to get under way on 12 September.
The FA said that the kick-off time would be confirmed in the coming weeks.
It has been reported that the match could serve as a test event to welcome a limited number of fans into Wembley Stadium as part of plans for supporters to make a socially distanced return to sports venues more widely from 1 October.
The fixture will be immediately followed by an international break from 2-10 September.
Last year’s Community Shield saw Manchester City defeat Liverpool on penalties.
As City had won both the Premier League and FA Cup in 2018/19, their opponents were the top-flight’s runners-up.
