FA confirm Dele Alli ban decision and whether he can face Manchester United

Dele Alli has been handed a one-match ban by the FA which means he will miss Tottenham's match against Manchester United.

Alli has been suspended for the game with immediate effect, fined £50,000 and must undertake an education course following a breach of FA Rule E3.

The FA charged the 24-year-old in February over a video that appeared on social media on February 6 about coronavirus. A video appeared on Snapchat in which the Spurs midfielder joked about the outbreak and appeared to mock an Asian man.

Alli later deleted the post and released a new video on Chinese social media platform Weibo to apologise, saying: "I let myself down and the club."

A statement from the FA read: "The Tottenham Hotspur FC player denied that a social media post breached FA Rule E3(1), as it was insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute, and constituted an “Aggravated Breach”, which is defined in FA Rule E3(2), as it included a reference, whether express or implied, to race and/or colour and/or ethnic origin and/or nationality.

"However, it was subsequently found proven by an independent Regulatory Commission."

Despite the incident happening in early February, the shutdown of football meant the process was delayed and it is only four months later that Alli now knows the outcome after the charge was heard on June 8.

He will now miss Tottenham's Premier League return against United but will be available again to face West Ham United three days later.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is also set to discover the fate of Eric Dier, who was charged by the FA after entering the crowd after the FA Cup defeat to Norwich.

That decision is expected to be made in the coming days.
