FA committed to completing FA Cup with semis and final at behind-closed-doors Wembley

The Football Association are committed to finishing this season's FA Cup should the Premier League successfully resume.

FA's chief executive Mark Bullingham has supposedly told FA Council members at a meeting on Thursday that he intends to finishing the competition alongside league action.

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic suspending the season the FA Cup had reached the quarter-final stage.

Bullingham hopes the four last eight clashes will be played on a home-and-away basis provided the Government and emergency services give their approval for the season to resume in that manner.

The two semi-finals and the final will then be played at Wembley behind closed doors, reports the Daily Mail.

Leicester drew Chelsea, Manchester City visit Newcastle, Sheffield United host Arsenal and Norwich face Manchester United in the remaining four clashes.

Bullingham and FA chairman Greg Clarke have supposedly discussed the financial affects caused by the coronavirus.

Estimates suggests it could cost hundreds of millions if the Premier League and the EFL seasons cannot be completed.

Clarke is understood to have said a situation where fans are not allowed back into grounds could occur.

Social distancing requirements mean games could be played behind closed doors for most or potentially all of next season.

He is understood to have talked about supporting clubs throughout the football pyramid to "hibernate" until a time when supporters return to provide them with the matchday revenue necessary to survive.
