Oscar Piastri blasted Lando Norris’ driving and then accused McLaren of being “unfair” as the world championship rivals collided on the opening lap of a Singapore Grand Prix won by George Russell.
The title tension between team-mates Norris and Piastri has bubbled along all season without ever boiling over, but that all changed on the first lap when they banged wheels at the third corner.
Norris, who started two places behind Piastri in fifth, cleared his title rival with an aggressive move that was noted by the stewards but not investigated.Much to Piastri’s fury, McLaren then elected against swapping their drivers with Norris crossing the line in third place, one position ahead of Piastri.
Max Verstappen held off Norris in the closing stages to finish runner-up to keep his outside chances of a fifth-consecutive title alive.

Lewis Hamilton receives five-second penalty
15:31 , Kieran JacksonAs a result of too many track limit violations - due to his brake issues - Hamilton has received a five-second penalty.
He drops to eighth, with Fernando Alonso up to seventh.
Hamilton: “It has been a challenging couple of days but there were definitely some positives to take.
“I’ve felt good in the car all weekend and we had a strong final third of the race. The Softs gave us great attacking pace and meant I could close down a big gap to the cars ahead, but unfortunately a brake issue cost us the overtake and the chance to score more points.
“We had the potential to be further ahead this weekend, starting from qualifying, so the focus now is on maximising what we have going into Austin and executing cleanly to bring home as many points as possible.”

Oscar Piastri labelled Lando Norris’s aggressive overtake as “unfair” after McLaren opted not to intervene in the intra-team squabble in Singapore on Sunday.
On the day McLaren sealed the 2025 F1 constructors’ trophy, their two drivers jousting for the drivers’ championship clashed on the opening lap of the Singapore Grand Prix.
Norris, starting in fifth, aggressively moved around the inside of turn three and overtook Piastri for third place, though he did make contact with his team-mate after tagging the back of Max Verstappen’s Red Bull in second.

Ollie Bearman after finishing ninth:
19:00 , Kieran Jackson“Really happy, it was looking really good, inheriting P8 from Fernando’s slow stop, but they were quicker today.
“I was stuck behind Carlos for a long time but I was eating up my tyres behind him. Still happy to be P9 at the end of anything.”

Andrea Stella on Piastri's anger in the cockpit:
15:59 , Kieran Jackson"First of all, we have to put everything in perspective - these are comments from a driver in an F1 car - heat of the moment, the information, it's just his point of view of Lando moving on to him.
"So as usual, we will have good conversations, we'll build from there and come up stronger. This has been the whole process for building together a strong team which the drivers are a great foundational part."
Lando Norris after coming home third:
15:44 , Kieran Jackson“It was a tough race, Max didn’t make any mistakes. I gave it my all today, some good little bits of battling but too difficult to overtake. I’m happy with today, I got forward two places.
On Piastri move: “It was slippery and wet in a lot of places but it’s racing, had a small correction, it was good racing. I wish there were more overtaking opportunities but I did everything I could.”

Max Verstappen after finishing second:
15:32 , Kieran JacksonOn starting on softs: “The track only just got dry, starting on dirty side, we just tried something different.
“We tried, it didn’t really work out, it’s just about surviving on the tyres. Unfortunately, the whole race was difficult for different reasons. But you can’t pass without something crazy happening.”
Time for the podium in Singapore!
15:09 , Kieran JacksonA proud moment for George Russell then, as he wins in F1 for the fifth time and the British and German national anthems play out in Singapore!

McLaren seal F1 constructors’ championship with podium in Singapore
15:05 , Kieran JacksonMcLaren have sealed this season’s F1 constructors’ title with Lando Norris’s podium in Singapore.
The papaya, who won their first teams’ title in 26 years last season at the final race in Abu Dhabi, have been the dominant team in 2025 and have won the constructors’ trophy with six races left.
A podium from either Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri would seal the crown in Singapore on Sunday, with the Brit finishing third and the Australian in fourth.

Norris is now outside DRS range of Verstappen.
Russell is six seconds ahead out in front and cruising to a second win of the season!
Norris squeezes Verstappen (Lap 54/62)
14:30 , Kieran JacksonBold from Lando!
He goes around the outside but Verstappen holds his nerve and keeps second place.
Meanwhile, Piastri is closing in behind gradually, just three seconds off Norris.
Verstappen defending well (Lap 52/62)

14:19 , Kieran JacksonInteresting phase of the race now, with Verstappen catching up the back of the pack - but that’s resulted in a slower lap time and Norris is now just 0.8 seconds behind.
Verstappen: “I’m struggling a lot now.”
Can Norris get a move done for second place here?!

Hulkenberg spins (Lap 45/62)
14:17 , Kieran JacksonBrief threat of a safety car as Hulkenberg spins off track, but fortunately there’s a run-off area and he rejoins safely enough.
The frontrunners now catching up the backmarkers - a lot of blue flags incoming!
Verstappen over radio (Lap 44/62)
14:14 , Kieran JacksonVerstappen: “Mate again the balance is all over the place, it’s undrivable.”
Fortauntely for Max, Norris is also struggling with his balance and goes wide at turn 16 - costing him a second.
The gap between the pair is now 2.4 seconds.
Russell’s lead builds to 4.1 seconds.
Verstappen struggling (Lap 40/62)
14:09 , Kieran JacksonVerstappen: “The brakes are so hard, please help.”
Very rare for the Dutchman to be so despondent.
Norris is now just 1.4 seconds off Verstappen.
22 to go.
Verstappen locks up (Lap 37/62)
14:05 , Kieran JacksonVerstappen locks up his front wheels but saves his Red Bull car from going in the wall.
“It’s so s*** to drive.”
He’s lost time to Russell and now trails by five seconds, with Norris just 1.6 seconds behind the Dutchman now.
4-10: Piastri, Leclerc, Antonelli, Hamilton, Lawson, Stroll, Sainz

Norris and Piastri pit (Lap 27/62)
13:48 , Kieran JacksonNorris pits a lap before Piastri, but the Australian’s stop is slow - it’s 5.1 seconds!
Fortunately, Piastri does get out ahead of Leclerc.
So, normal order restored - top-5: Russell, Verstappen, Norris, Piastri, Leclerc
Norris now leads (Lap 26/62)
13:46 , Kieran JacksonSo it’s a McLaren one-two but when will the papaya get their guys in?!
George Russell pits (Lap 26/62)
13:45 , Kieran JacksonA swift 2.5-second stop for the race leader and comes out in third, ahead of Max Verstappen.
Kimi Antonelli also pits, dropping to seventh.
Lewis Hamilton pits (Lap 25/62)
13:44 , Kieran JacksonA slow-ish stop at 3.5 seconds for Hamilton, but he comes out ahead of Liam Lawson in ninth place.
So - when will Russell and the McLarens pit?!
Verstappen complaining (Lap 24/62)
13:42 , Kieran JacksonEngineer: “These laps critical.”
Verstappen: “I’ll try mate, but everything is working against me this race.”
Meanwhile, Norris is closing the gap on Russell - he just went a second quicker! The gap is nine seconds...
Charles Leclerc pits (Lap 22/62)
13:40 , Kieran JacksonLeclerc dives in for a pit-stop and drops to ninth... Antonelli up to fourth.
Lando Norris stays out (Lap 21/62)
13:38 , Kieran JacksonMcLaren don’t respond - they think they’ve got the race-pace to get ahead of Verstappen with a later pit-stop.
Norris stays in second then, with Piastri third.
Max Verstappen pits (Lap 20/62)
13:37 , Kieran JacksonRed Bull blink first!
Verstappen dives in for hard tyres - 3.0 second stop - and comes out in seventh, ahead of Alonso.
Will McLaren respond?
Norris can't get within DRS (Lap 19/62)
13:36 , Kieran JacksonSo Norris stays out and is 1.1 seconds off Verstappen - so still not within the critical DRS range!
Russell now 9.3 seconds clear - and still in cruise control!
Top-10: Russell, Verstappen, Norris, Piastri, Leclerc, Antonelli, Hamilton, Alonso, Hadjar, Bearman

Lando Norris doesn't pit yet (Lap 17/62)
13:32 , Kieran JacksonNorris’ engineer: “Box to overtake Verstappen.”
But then they tell him to “stay out.”
Good call. Norris would have been in a whole load of traffic afterwards.

Norris glances the wall (Lap 14/62)
13:28 , Kieran JacksonHe’s hunting for the limit of the racetrack is Norris tonight, as he looks to haul in Verstappen - the gap is now 1.2 seconds.
Russell’s lead now an enormous eight seconds over Verstappen!
A few pit-stops taking place at the back of the grid - when will the frontrunners pit?
Russell's lead is five seconds (Lap 10/62)
13:21 , Kieran JacksonCruise control for Russell out in front at the moment, with a five-second lead over Verstappen - who only has 1.4 seconds over Norris.
Can Norris get within DRS here?

Piastri: 'That's not fair' (Lap 7/62)
13:16 , Kieran JacksonMcLaren to take no further action, with Piastri complaining over team radio: “That’s not fair.
“If he has to avoid another car by crashing into his teammate, that’s a s*** way of winning.”
An unusually irate Piastri! He’s now one second behind Norris, who trails Verstappen by 1.9 seconds.
Piastri told to 'focus' (Lap 5/62)
13:13 , Kieran JacksonPiastri’s engineer: “We will look at it, but I need you to just focus on what we can do here - control the controllables, mate.”
Stewards say no further investigation. I’d be surprised if McLaren tell Norris to cede third place.
Further down, Lewis Hamilton has dropped down to seventh, with Charles Leclerc up to fifth.
Russell's lead is 1.6 seconds (Lap 3/62)
13:09 , Kieran JacksonVery strong start for the pole-sitter, who is now 1.6 seconds clear and out of DRS range to Verstappen.
Piastri, however, is really not happy: “Are we cool with Lando just barging me out there or what’s the deal?”
There was contact between Norris and Piastri, with Verstappen involved too, but a bold move in my opinion - and fair.
4-10: Piastri, Leclerc, Antonelli, Hamilton, Alonso, Hadjar, Bearman
Norris' front-wing broken
13:07 , Kieran JacksonNorris’ end-plate on the front-wing is broken - will he have to come in and pit?
Meanwhile, Piastri is not happy: “That wasn’t very team like, but sure...”
Norris makes a super start!
13:05 , Kieran JacksonRussell makes a brilliant start and keeps first comfortably, with Verstappen keeping second place.
But Lando Norris shoots up two places, past his teammate and title rival Oscar Piastri down the inside, and makes it stick! Norris up to third!
Boy did Lando need that!
Formation lap!
13:03 , Kieran JacksonGeorge Russell leads the pack around for an important formation lap, particularly given the conditions.
Slicks are the tyre of choice, though a few cars locking up in the final sector.
Here we go though!

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff:
12:55 , Kieran Jackson“It’s clearly slicks on start-finish but out on the track, it’s not so clear.
“It’s always good to start first, you have Max in P2, if you can maintain the position at the start, it can be a good one.”

Alex Albon, who starts in the pit-lane:
12:52 , Kieran Jackson“It feels a bit dry here, but I’m hoping the weather creates some chaos. Sector three is really wet.”
Comedian Jack Whitehall on the grid:
12:51 , Kieran Jackson“Can’t get rid of me now. First ever night race and first time to Singapore, it’s amazing - so hot as well. I want to get a cooling vest!”
McLaren CEO Zak Brown:
12:50 , Kieran Jackson“George put in two good laps, they seem very quick, Max is there or thereabouts but we have good race-pace - I’m optimistic.

Ollie Bearman, who starts P9:
12:41 , Kieran Jackson“It feels dry but sector two still a bit of standing water. I think the inter will be faster for one lap, there’ll still be another half-an-hour until the race.”

Lando Norris, ahead of the race:
12:38 , Kieran JacksonOn issues with car: “Not enough downforce, not the best day yesterday but it’s a long race.
“It’s always a challenge to race here, we need to overtake - it’s always tricky but we’ll give it our best shot.”
How can McLaren win the F1 constructors’ championship in Singapore?
12:35 , Kieran JacksonAhead of round 18 this weekend in Singapore, there are 346 points left to play for. McLaren’s lead currently stands at 333 points over Mercedes.
Therefore, McLaren will seal the title this weekend if they simply score 13 points. Thus, a podium for either Norris or Piastri will be enough.
Ferrari can also catch McLaren statistically, so McLaren will become champions if the papaya:
- Not outscored by Mercedes by 31 points or more
- Not outscored by Ferrari by 35 points or more

Singapore GP preview: Singapore GP tends to produce chaos – Max Verstappen knows that better than most
12:32 , Kieran JacksonStalling on the start line in his rookie year, 2015 gave Max Verstappen his first indication that the Marina Bay Street Circuit may be his trickiest nut to crack in F1. A decade ago, the 18-year-old, driving for Red Bull’s sister team, Toro Rosso, stormed back to eighth from a lap down before defiantly screaming “No!” to his team when asked to let teammate Carlos Sainz past. It’s fair to say we’ve seen numerous instances of non-compliance a fair few times in the years since.
Two years on, Verstappen would be sandwiched between two Ferraris and powerless to a collision with Kimi Raikkonen, in F1’s first-ever wet race at night in 2017, which brought about one of the most chaotic start procedures in recent history. In 2022, a fuel quantity mishap in qualifying ruined the Dutchman’s weekend, while a year later, Singapore was the only race Red Bull failed to win amid an otherwise peerless F1 campaign. Verstappen couldn’t even finish on the podium, having to settle for fifth.
And so to 2025: a year in which Verstappen has emerged from a position of nothingness to an outside contender for the world championship.

Singapore GP tends to produce chaos – Max Verstappen knows that better than most
George Russell, who starts on pole:
12:21 , Kieran JacksonOn weather: “It’s unpredictable here, it’ll dry up pretty quick.”
On race start: “In dry conditions, I’m not expecting anything to happen, but it could be an interesting start like 2017. It’ll make it a longer race.
“I think we’re in for a really good chance, it’ll be around the pit-stops, whoever makes that decision on the perfect lap.”
.jpg)
Oscar Piastri, who starts P3:
12:14 , Kieran Jackson“Depends how good my start is, we’ll see what happens - will try and take the opportunity if it comes up.”

Lando Norris, after finishing fifth in qualifying:
12:08 , Kieran JacksonOn illness: “Last place you want to feel a bit ill. I was struggling a little bit, it hit me pretty quickly but it went away – I;m not optimal but no excuses for today.
On qualifying: “Mercedes are doing a very good job, Singapore has always been a bit of a weird one, we’ve been struggling with the front tyres, every time someone struggles with front tyres, Mercedes is usually the team that comes out on top. The front of the car hasn’t been strong enough, then you have to make compromises.
“Making improvements is the thing we have to work on, we’re trying to win the constructors’ this weekend and it feels disappointing when you’re not quick enough. You feel too slow, haven’t done a good enough job.
On prospect of win on Sunday: “I think you’re asking for a lot, I’m sure I’ll go back to my room and we’ll ask ourselves the same question, there’s always chances in the race but not many, it’s about getting to third or second. A lot of work to do tomorrow.”

Kimi Antonelli after qualifying in fourth:
11:42 , Kieran Jackson“I like to make my life harder, I felt I had a real shot for front-row - the car was there and we had the pace.
“In Q3, I let my emotion took over.
“I’m a bit more relaxed in the car overall, focusing more on the process, today’s Q3 was another big learning for the future, sometimes doing less brings in more. In Q3, I went beyond the car’s potential - was asking too much.”

Lewis Hamilton, after qualifying sixth:
11:35 , Kieran JacksonOn this weekend: “I’ve enjoyed it, have felt on it all weekend and felt good with the car. It was maybe silly of me but I thought we were fighting for top positions.
“But the way the plan goes, where we are in the pit-lane, using tyre temperature, all these different sessions mean we don’t optimise the session. We have to do some work.
On fixing those issues: “We’ll talk in the background, just have to have a conversation about it – everyone is working as hard as they can and we should look at what the others are doing, Meredes were out first
“When I got to Q3, I lost performance in the tyres.”

Martin Brundle on Oscar Piastri's lead:
05:00 , Kieran Jackson“It’s a seven-race championship, plus a couple of sprints. He’s got a race in his pocket over his teammate and three races over Max Verstappen. You can get away with one rough weekend, but he doesn’t need two.”

Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies:
Saturday 4 October 2025 20:00 , Kieran Jackson“It’s a strong qualifying from Max, it’s good to see long faces when you get the front row!
“We’d have been closer to George without that last corner traffic, Max would’ve been there or thereabouts.
“We’re not on pole but we’re able to fight with McLaren and Mercedes. We are in that group on these sort of tracks, in Zandvoort we could not be in close range, testimony to all the hard work.”

Oscar Piastri, after qualifying third:

With overtaking at a premium around here, this is pivotal ahead of the race tomorrow.

F1 issues first-ever ‘heat hazard’ warning for Singapore Grand Prix
Saturday 4 October 2025 13:25 , Kieran JacksonF1’s governing body have issued a first-ever “heat hazard” warning for this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix.
With temperatures set to reach a humid 31C in the city-state, new regulations this year state that drivers may fit a cooling device to their cars if they so wish.
The cooling system pumps liquid around a series of tubes but it is not mandatory, with ballast being added to cars for drivers who opt not to use the device, in order for every car in the field to be equal in weight.
More detail below:

Oscar Piastri looks ahead to Singapore:
Saturday 4 October 2025 12:44 , Kieran Jackson"I think even without disregarding who won the race, I think we don't want to have weekends like Baku. And we know we can't afford to have weekends like Baku.
"Certainly from my side of things, there was some tough lessons to take, but I think as a team, we kind of recognised a few opportunities from the weekend to try and improve.
"So that's always an important thing. I'm not that fussed with kind of what the championship picture looks like.”
