F1 legend agrees with ‘grumpy’ fans on new 2026 rules

  • Former F1 world champion Nigel Mansell has strongly criticised the sport's new regulations, labelling overtakes as "totally false" and agreeing with "grumpy" fans.
  • New engine and chassis regulations for the current season, featuring a near 50/50 split between internal combustion and electrical power, have made energy management a central aspect of racing.
  • Reigning world champion Lando Norris described these overtakes as "artificial" due to the introduction of new aids such as boost mode and active aerodynamics.
  • Four-time world champion Max Verstappen has also expressed significant dissatisfaction, calling the new cars "anti-racing" and even threatening to quit the sport.
  • F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali defended the regulations, dismissing the notion that overtakes are "artificial" and stating that "overtaking is overtaking", while acknowledging Verstappen's input.
