2024 F1 Academy champion Abbi Pulling has set her sights on securing a full-time Formula E seat.
“Formula E is something that is really attractive, and I'd like to one day be a driver in this series,” she told Formula E.
“It's a world championship, and it’s the pinnacle at the end of the day. With Nissan, we've not discussed that far ahead yet, but we're working together to get to the point where I can go on and gather some experience and keep getting better, to open up that potential if I'm able to perform.
"Obviously, that's a bit of pressure on me, but they're giving me lots of support, and hopefully that can keep progressing in the future. But at the moment, I'm purely just the simulator and rookie driver and just constantly learning, practising a lot of the technique for the race run.”
While in her last season in the all-female racing series, during which she won the championship, Pulling took part in the Formula E women's test at Jarama with Nissan ahead of the 2024-25 season. After topping the timesheets in the test, the 22-year-old went on to sign a multi-year contract with Nissan as a rookie and simulator driver.
“Although [some of the race runs] don’t make you look pretty on the timesheets, it's the stuff that is important to make sure you can be regenerating enough, whilst being able to push beyond the limits and kind of keep that momentum.
“It's like nothing else I've ever done before,” Pulling said while driving the latest spec of Formula E machinery, “but it's really insightful, and when you get it right, it feels really satisfying!”
“Being more involved behind the scenes [at Nissan] is really valuable. And of course, tests like this help build those relationships and potential relationships going forward with everyone else. For me, that's how it formed with Nissan, and I've learned so much working with them. It's a big operation.”
