"F*** the police": Smirking at the camera and munching on Skittles, the escaped prisoner at the centre of a huge manhunt taunts police in a bizarre Instagram video

Smirking at the camera and munching on sweets, an escaped prisoner at the centre of a manhunt taunts police in an Instagram video.

Cody Lowndes scarpered while on a hospital visit at the weekend. Police have been looking for him ever since.

Now an Instagram clip has emerged of him goading cops.

Appearing to be sat in a lounge at a home, Lowndes, 21, speaks to a man behind the camera.

The clip begins with the man saying: "[Beginning of sentence cut off] ...freedom mate?"

Lowndes, appearing to be chewing - with a packet of sweets behind him - replies: "F*** the police."

The man then says: "Oh dear, what's happened to them?"

Lowndes, picking up a pair of handcuffs, replies: "Snapped 'em off."

The man then asks: "Got a message for that copper?"

Lowndes repies: "F*** 'em".

He is then heard saying: "Come and get me the third time."

Lowndes, from Tameside, was due to appear in court on Saturday (July 11), but said he felt unwell and was taken to Tameside General Hospital under guard.

He managed to escape while at the hospital, sparking a manhunt.

Police have been searching for him ever since, with officers seen scouring Reddish Vale Country Park over the weekend.

The hunt has since been extended to the Tameside area.

Police have also been searching the Hyde Hall Farm hiking area in Denton.

On Monday, detectives issued an appeal for help to trace Lowndes - and have released his mug shot.

Officers are urging anybody with information over his location to get in touch.

He is also wanted in connection with possession of a bladed article; criminal damage; as well as absconding from custody while on a hospital visit.

A 19-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

She has been released under investigation while the manhunt continues.
