F*ck An EGOT, The Aussie Dream Is The LEGOAT (Logie, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, AACTA/ARIA & Tony)

The Logies were last night and after watching Robert Irwin strip off into his khakis, whip out his snake everywhere and Goon of Fortune be replicated on stage with Peking Duk, the Aussie entertainment industry may have really peaked. But then I had a thought — Australian talent needs a bigger, sillier, deeply impractical mountain to climb.

F*ck an EGOT. I want a LEGOAT.

This would be more impressive with a LEGOAT. (Image: James Gourley/Getty Images for TV WEEK)

For the uninitiated, an EGOT is someone who has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. It’s the awards-world equivalent of finishing a marathon (but with personality). There are 28 people in the club when honorary awards are included, among them Audrey Hepburn, Whoopi Goldberg and Viola Davis.

Cute. Impressive, even. But missing something very important — us.

So during a slightly wine-soaked press trip to Japan with a group of new work mates the LEGOAT was born.

The truly elite title includes a Logie, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, AACTA or ARIA (I couldn’t decide) and Tony.

Yes, the acronym is a little clunky but you could literally be awarded a goat shaped trophy OR you could have a goat emoji instead of a verified sticker on your socials. There is no greater goal!

I know myself, and achieving one is beyond my personal skillset. I can barely keep myself and my plants alive, let alone win a competitive arts award across six separate institutions. But I do have some ideas about who could get there.

Hugh Jackman feels like the closest contender right now. He already has an Emmy, Grammy and two Tonys, plus an Oscar nomination for Les Misérables. He also has AACTA nominations to his name. He needs a Logie, ARIA / AACTA and Oscar win, which is still a large to-do list, but Wolverine has been through worse.

Meanwhile, The Wiggles should be admitted through pure moral necessity. They hold the record for the most ARIA Awards in the Best Children’s Album category and entered the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2011. Their show has entertained generations of children, relaunched the career of a Justice Crew member and made “Fruit Salad” a cultural artefact. They should have a Logie for that alone. Their arena tours also feel more Tony-worthy than plenty of productions that have made it to Broadway, disrespectfully.

Do you see the vision??? (Image: Getty)

Then there is of course Robert Irwin. The I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! host took home the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter last night, so the Logie box is ticked. He won Dancing with the Stars in the US in 2025, too, which means a Broadway pivot is not wildly out of reach. If his DWTS co-star, Whitney Leavitt, can go from dancing in the NICU to dancing as Roxie Hart in Chicago, I’m choosing to believe anything is possible.

Also, this cannot be restricted to Australians. The Hollywood big dogs already love coming here to film on every available Gold Coast street, or turn Melbourne corporate offices into makeshift courtrooms. They use our crews, take our weather, pretend our CBDs are anywhere but here, then leave. The least they can do is feel the same pressure to impress Australian voters and secure a Logie while they are at it. I’m thinking a Zendaya cameo on Home & Away, Anne Hathaway in the inevitable Kath & Kim revival, the options are endless! Liza Minelli is actually SO close to an LEGOAT, she just needs the Logie and Aria, but keep trying girl!

The LEGOAT may be a far fetched dream. But so was a pair of budgy smugglers being on the Logies stage and yet here we are.
