Ezra Miller has teamed up with comic book writer Grant Morrison in order to write his own screenplay for The Flash.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the move is a bid to hold onto the role, after the project faced a major clash of creative visions.
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who have been on board the project since January 2018, have pitched a light-hearted approach to the material, in line with their previous work on Spider-Man: Homecoming and Game Night.
Sources state this is also what the studio, Warner Bros, has in mind, but Miller has envisioned a darker take on the material.
The actor has been attached to the role since he was cast by director Zack Snyder for a cameo in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with a central role in 2017’s Justice League.
The script could be submitted to the studio as early as next week. Morrison is best known for his work on DC Comics’s Animal Man, Batman, JLA, Action Comics, All-Star Superman, Vertigo’s The Invisibles, and Fleetway’s 2000 AD.
If Warner Bros chooses against Miller’s take, it’s rumoured that the actor could leave the project entirely.
