Ezgjan Alioski makes Leeds United admission as he opens up on contract situation

Ezgjan Alioski has said he would love to extend his contract with Leeds United.

Alioski’s current contract expires at the end of the season, meaning the 28-year-old would be free to leave the club on a free transfer.

The North Macedonian international has made 142 appearances for Leeds since joining the club on a four-year deal from FC Lugano in 2017.

He has made nine appearances this season, playing primarily at left-back for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Leeds Live understand that Leeds are keen to get Alioski tied down to a new contract, but the man himself says there has been no progress yet.

“Still nothing has happened,” he told BBC West Yorkshire Sport Daily. “I am here, of course, until my contract ends next year. But I am not thinking that I will leave Leeds. My head is only for Leeds, concentrated. But what will happen will happen in the end.

“Of course I would love to stay here, but these are things for other people to manage. I want to enjoy only the moment I am here. I want to be focused on the football. Other things, of course, I see in the media, but nothing has happened still. I am here every day serious, enjoying every day in Leeds.”

Leeds have made a promising start to life back in the Premier League, winning four of their 10 games so far to sit in 12th place with 14 points.

Bielsa’s distinctive man-marking, high-intensity style has made Leeds a difficult side to face and the brand of football they play is one of the reasons Alioski wants to stay put.

“I’m enjoying the football that we’re playing in the Premier League - attacking football, up and down, this is what I love,” he added. “It works like a group. I am doing well with them together. Other teams are maybe individually better, but we start like a team. We are the team who are so dangerous and so strong.

“That’s why we are all so good and every player performs good. Everybody is fighting for each other.”

Leeds face a difficult task this weekend as they travel to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea in an 8pm kick-off on Saturday. Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 12 games across all competitions and are third in the Premier League, two points off top spot.
