Ezequiel Esperon dead: Argentine footballer dies age 23 after fall from sixth-floor terrace

An Argentine footballer has died after plunging from a sixth-floor terrace as he partied with friends

Ezequiel Esperon, 23, was pronounced dead shortly after reaching Zubizarreta Hospital in Buenos Aires.

He is believed to have fallen after leaning on a railing that had not been closed properly and gave way under his weight.

The tragedy happened just before 3am on Sunday morning in the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of Villa Devoto at an apartment where he was partying with friends.

Esperon began his professional career with Buenos Aires club All Boys before joining Brazilian side Sport Club Internacional which is based in the southern city of Porto Alegre.

After a year he left them for city rivals Gremio, before moving to Mexico with his last club, Atlante de Mexico.

The Mexcian side tweeted after learning of the tragedy: “We deeply regret the death of Ezequiel Esperon. A hug to Heaven.”

Club Atletico All Boys said in a statement on social media alongside a picture of the midfielder: “All Boys is deeply saddened by the death of Ezequiel Esperon who played in our youth sides.

“Our condolences to his family, loved ones and friends.”

Alexis Mac Allister, who plays for Boca Juniors, on loan from Premier League side Brighton , was a close friend of Esperon.

He took to Instagram to post a picture of his friend alongside the message: “Today your loved ones have another angel in Heaven. We will always remember you.”

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

However, they have already stated that there is no evidence of foul play and everything points towards Esperon losing his life as the result of a tragic accident.
