FRISCO, Texas _ Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott says there isn't any finger pointing in the locker room after a 2-3 start.
The only pointed fingers, he said, are players pointing at themselves for failing to execute.
Elliott, who is coming off a 54-yard performance (the third fewest yards in his career) in the overtime loss to the Texans, said the defense has been especially supportive while the offense has struggled.
"There's enough accountability in this locker room that there's not going to be any finger pointing," he said. "One thing that's good about this group that we have in this locker room is that there hasn't been any finger pointing at all. Even when as an offense we've struggled this year, when we go up to the defense like, 'We're sorry we didn't hold up our end.' They're like, 'We need to do more. We need to go out there and win that game. We were in the position to go out there and win it.'"
Elliott said there's no concern about the team fracturing over a rough start as they prepare to host the Jacksonville Jaguars (3-2) at 3:25 p.m. Sunday at AT&T Stadium.
"There's enough leadership on this team. There's enough good guys that we don't have to worry about guys saying 'You. You,' " he said. "The guy that may get pointed at is going to say, 'Hey, that's on me. I (messed) up.' He's not going to need anyone to go over there and say, 'Hey, you need to get your (stuff) together.' "
And staying together will be crucial if Dallas has expectations of putting some wins together, especially considering that the Washington Redskins are atop the NFC East at 2-2.
"It's very important. We've got a lot of ball left. We can't have that at all," he said. "There's no comfort in here right now. There's no comfort being 2-3 in the National Football League. There's a lot of football left, so we've just got to focus on going out there and getting better every week and getting wins."
As for pointing fingers? Elliott is keeping his pointed at No. 21. It's a delicate balance, however, of not trying to do too much.
"Just being a leader on this team I know every week is going to take my best and if I do give my very best performance there's a very high possibility we will go out there and win the ball game," he said. "So that's obviously in the back of my mind every week. There's a difference between having it in your mind and kind of going out there and trying to make too many plays. You have to play within the scheme. You can't try to do too much. You have to be yourself."
