Ezekiel Elliott on playing football this fall: ‘We want to bring this nation together’

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott have formed a unique bond in their first four years in the league. They’ve grown up together in the organization and have become inseparable in the media at times.

They both appeared on a Zoom interview with USA TODAY’s Jori Epstein recently and talked about what playing the game with each other means to both of them. But more than that, there’s a motive to playing this fall that is a little different than most seasons because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Both were asked about what it means to play amidst such extraordinary times and their answers were something that was a breath of fresh air to hear in today’s divided political environment. Elliott was particularly aware of what football can do for the country during these times.

“We’re out there for our love for the game, we’re out there for our love for our teams, we’re out there for our love of our fans,” Elliott said. “We want to spread a message of love and we want to bring this nation together.”
