Among the dynamics of what Ezekiel Elliott described as a complicated relationship with Tiffany Thompson is that she became pregnant while visiting the running back in Florida in February 2016.
But that wasn't the only revelation to come from hundreds of pages of documents that became public Friday as part of the NFL Players Association's filing for a petition to vacate the forthcoming arbitration decision from Harold Henderson, who will soon rule on Elliott's appeal of his six-game suspension.
Thompson, in an interview with NFL investigator Kia Roberts a year ago, and Elliott, as part of his testimony during his appeals hearing this week in New York, both contended they weren't ready to be parents as 20-year-olds.
Thompson told Roberts she informed Elliott about the pregnancy around March 10. Elliott contends that he found out the last day of the NFL combine on Feb. 29.
In April 2016 _ right around the time the Cowboys were about to select Elliott fourth overall _ Thompson went to Chicago (the site of the draft) and had an abortion.
Thompson told Roberts she learned she was pregnant with twins, but lost one of the babies through a miscarriage. Thompson terminated the pregnancy at about 10 weeks, she told Roberts, by taking two pills.
After a year-long investigation, the NFL ruled last month that Elliott used physical force against Thompson _ his former girlfriend _ over several days in July 2016 in Columbus, Ohio. Elliott was never arrested or charged.
Thompson became pregnant during her same trip to Aventura, Fla., in February 2016 in which she called the police and accused Elliott of battery. The investigation was soon dropped and Elliott was never arrested or charged.
Elliott said during testimony in his appeals hearing, however, that the dynamics of his relationship with Thompson changed once he learned she was pregnant.
"Well, my intention was to be done with her, but now she was pregnant with my child," Elliott said under oath, "so I had to somehow _ I couldn't just not talk to her, if that makes any sense."
Elliott helped Thompson get an apartment and paid her rent and also paid for her to lease a car, Elliott said.
Ultimately, Elliott said the two began to discuss options for Thompson to have an abortion.
"I just made it very clear to her ... we weren't ready to have a child," Elliott said during his testimony.
Elliott said he didn't accompany Thompson when she went to have an abortion in Chicago. Instead, Elliott said, he sent his best friend, Alvarez Jackson, to go with her along with one of Thompson's close friends.
"Her follow-up date to her abortion was on the same day as the draft in Chicago," Elliott said in testimony.
Elliott said that Thompson had told him she was on birth control "the whole time we were together." Thompson described Elliott as "speechless" when she told him she was pregnant, according to her interview with Roberts.
"I believe she got pregnant on purpose," Elliott said during his testimony.
