Ezekiel Elliott Holdout Update: Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says “deal will happen”

We’re now on day ten of the Ezekiel Elliott holdout watch. Despite no real news or obvious traction in contract talks, you can bet that both sides are still trying to get something done so that both sides can move along as one.

So while Elliott is reportedly still getting his workout on in Cabo, the Cowboys are no doubt talking about what needs to happen to get a deal done and move forward with putting together the foundation for a team that should be a playoff contender.

Jerry Jones spoke to the media today, and of course he was asked about providing an update to the whole situation that’s front and center on any Cowboy fan’s mind. His comments published by NFL.com were much more encouraging than some of the hardball we’ve seen him lob out to the media thus far.

Jones was asked about not just Elliott’s status, but fellow teammates Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper’s, who are also in the midst of contract negotiations.

“Just know that like so many things, it’ll happen. It’ll happen,” Jones said. “There literally is no concern on my part at all about any time frame. That’ll happen. The results are too good for them and too good for the Cowboys. Think about it now. The results are too good for them and too good for the Cowboys. That always happens when it’s that good for both of us.”

Now, whether that means that the Cowboys will pony up and make Elliott the richest running back in the game — just like he wants — remains to be seen, but at least the news of a softer tone from Jones is something to be optimistic about.

Still, there’s no deal, and the longer this thing goes the more feelings can get hurt and make things tougher to play nice in the sandbox. We’ll continue to stay on top of it as news becomes available.
