Annual Shrove Tuesday Ball Game, Warwickshire
The melee begins for the 813th annual Shrove Tuesday Ball Game, which has been played since the 12th century in Atherstone, Warwickshire. The game starts when a heavy leather ball – made specially every year and filled with water – is dropped from a window in the town. There are no teams and no goals.
