'Eyesore' Nottingham city centre building put up for sale at £1.4m

A bar, supermarket and 'proper' pub are some of the suggestions after a prominent three-story building in Nottingham went up for sale for £1.4 million. The property is probably best known as Italian restaurant Antibo and still bears the name even though it closed down some years ago.

More recently Chez Coors, a Jamaican buffet, took over the ground floor. Earlier this year, the owners announced it was closed until further notice due to circumstances beyond their control.

Located on the edge of Hockley, in Lower Parliament Street, the sale is described as a "rare" and "extraordinary" opportunity. It is being advertised as 'mixed use' with a restaurant on the ground floor, offices on the first floor and a flat on the top floor.

Passers-by said they would like to see the building taken over as soon as possible and described it as an eyesore in its current state, with a smashed front door and boarded up window.

Self-employed builder Lawrence Ward, 59, of Bakersfield, said: "It looks a mess but it has some good architecture. It was built to look nice but it's not looked after."

The last thing he wants to see there is a takeaway. "We don't need more food stuff. There are enough eateries, especially takeaways. I would like to see an old-style pub - there are not many around now. It's all about students now," he added.

Robert Slater, 30, who works in a secondary school and lives in an apartment at Marco Island, added: "A bar would be good or a supermarket. It's not very nice to look at - it looks a bit rundown. It is massive and it's in a good location." Lynn Carver, 64, of Sneinton, said: "I would like a supermarket, like Aldi. It looks an eyesore at the moment."

Antibo was a popular place for parties and celebrations with 2-4-1 deals every night. Stag and hen do revellers were welcomed with open arms, even taking the groom or bride-to-be into the kitchen to make X-rated body parts with pizza dough, while strippers were allowed to perform in the upstairs bar.

The property is listed for sale on Rightmove.
