Eyebrow, lash and facial treatments banned for 2 more weeks – full list of what's blocked

Close contact beauty treatments will stay off the menu at salons for at least two more weeks, after a last minute turnaround by the Government.

Services such as facials and eyebrow shaping were set to start tomorrow - with many people already booked in - but as coronavirus cases rise in parts of country they have now been banned again.

The move is part of a series of changes aimed at stopping a second wave of coronavirus cases.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: "At every point I have said our plan to reopen society and the economy is conditional – that it relies on continued progress against the virus, and that we would not hesitate to put on the brakes if required.

"With those numbers creeping up, our assessment is that we should now squeeze that brake pedal in order to keep the virus under control."

These are the beauty treatments that are now banned until at least August 15:

  • Facials
  • Eyebrow tinting
  • Eyebrow waxing
  • Eyebrow threading
  • Eyelash tinting
  • Eyelash extensions

As well as stopping close contact beauty services, the new rules also mean a string of businesses that were set to reopen, now can't.

The Prime Minister also shut down plans to allow wedding receptions of up to 30 people and begin trials of letting crowds in to watch sporting events again.

Johnson said: "I know that the steps we are taking will be a heavy blow to many people – to everyone whose wedding plans have been disrupted, or who now cannot celebrate Eid in the way they would wish, I am really, really sorry about that. But we simply cannot take the risk."

Here are the businesses that now won't be reopening for at least two more weeks:

  • Casinos
  • Bowling alleys
  • Leisure centres
  • Ice-skating rinks
  • Facial treatments at beauty salons
  • Theatres, music halls and other venues for socially distanced audiences
