Extremely rare black fox said to bring 'bad luck' spotted in Ranelagh

An extremely rare black fox was spotted wandering the streets of south Dublin this morning.

The cute critter was captured on video wandering around a garden in Ranelagh by an eagle-eyed Reddit user.

The caption on the video reads: "Spotted this cheeky lil' bugger on my walk in this morning. Quick google search suggests he's quite rare."

Black foxes, also known as silver foxes, are indeed very rare and have only occasionally been spotted in the UK and Ireland.

The phenomenon is due to a rare genetic flaw dating back hundreds of years.

Although a black fox is in fact an ordinary red fox which has black fur, it is normally only seen in growing cubs.

In Medieval times, villages were very afraid of the sighting of a black fox which was thought to be a "devil" and the bringer of trouble or bad luck.

But this little devil seemed intent on capturing the hearts of locals as it later strolled into One Kinda Folk cafe and happily approached customers and let them take pictures.
