'Extremely popular, fun-filled' nurse and grandfather dies after testing positive for coronavirus

A nurse has died after testing positive for coronavirus, a health board has confirmed.

Gareth Roberts worked as a nurse at sites across the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board area since the 1980s and came out of retirement in January 2015.

He died at Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil after testing positive for Covid-19.

In a statement, the health board said he was an "extremely popular, fun-filled and well liked person" who is survived by his wife, son and grandson.

"Staff say he was such a kind and helpful person, and that they learned so much from him," a health board spokesperson said.

"He had a lovely way with relatives and always offered the caring, personal side. He was very much an 'old school' nurse.

"He is survived by his wife, son and grandson. We will miss him greatly."
