‘Extremely dangerous moment’: Trump reportedly enjoying LA chaos as excuse to deploy troops and grab emergency powers

President Donald Trump is reportedly leveraging the ongoing protests in Los Angeles against immigration raids to strengthen his position and potentially expand his executive authority. The demonstrations, which have emerged in response to the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement actions, are becoming a focal point for political maneuvering.

According to MSNBC, Right-wing media outlets are heavily featuring imagery of burning police cars and protesters carrying Mexican flags, shifting the narrative away from the controversial immigration raids to what the Trump administration portrays as urban unrest requiring strong intervention.

“This is an extremely dangerous moment for our constitutional guardrails,” observers note, as Trump appears to be seeking opportunities to declare an emergency and deploy military forces. Unlike his first term, when military leaders like Gen. Mark Milley and Mark Esper prevented the use of military force against civilians, Trump has now surrounded himself with officials who are more likely to support such actions.

New poll reveals strong Republican support for military intervention

Recent polling data indicates significant backing from Trump’s base for potential military action, with 68 percent of Republicans supporting the deployment of Marines to address the protests. Additionally, 75 percent approve of utilizing the National Guard in response to the situation.

Critics point out the contrast between Trump’s current stance and his actions during the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, where he delayed deploying troops to protect law enforcement officers. They also highlight his subsequent pardons of individuals who attacked police officers during that event.

The administration’s current approach appears to be banking on historical precedent, as public opinion typically favors law enforcement during periods of civil unrest. Trump’s team has assembled a government structure that appears more amenable to implementing aggressive responses to civil disturbances.

The situation in Los Angeles continues to develop as protesters oppose the immigration raids, while concerns grow about potential escalation and the use of federal forces. Political analysts warn that the coming days could see increased tension between federal authorities and demonstrators, potentially leading to more aggressive enforcement measures.
