'Extreme weather is classic climate emergency warning amid Tory cuts to fire service'

Dustbowl UK is turning into Tinderbox Britain as fire chiefs are warning the prolonged dry, hot weather is a danger to life and property as we brace ourselves for more soaring temperatures.

The lack of rain across much of the land means barbecues and recklessly discarded lighted cigarettes could spark a repeat of last month’s blazes that destroyed homes and left householders sifting through the wreckage.

Should a breeze or heavier wind blow sparks from a fire, the damage could be even worse next time and fire services cut back during the Conservative years will again struggle to cope.

Extreme weather conditions are classic warnings of a climate emergency.

Enjoying a warm, sunny summer can be a joy but that delight will turn to horror if infernos sweep all before them.

If we had a functioning Government instead of a Tory shower, it would reinforce a message to stay safe.

Herd of a jab?

Polio booster jabs for children under 10 to prevent the first community outbreak in Britain of the infectious, crippling disease for nearly half a century, is a sensible, precautionary measure.

The UK Health and Security Agency acting now will hopefully avoid heartache for kids and their families, after sewage samples suggest it has passed from person to person.

The jab programme in Greater London isn’t scaremongering and experts are desperate to avoid panic, but it is worrying that take-up rates of the NHS polio vaccine have dropped.

Fame game

Best known as the singer of 80s group Bros, Matt Goss will now go into this year’s Strictly Come Dancing series.

The When Will I Be Famous hit-maker will know his name is back in lights if he waltzes off with the prized Glitterball.
