As of 12:40 p.m., the highest temperature was 39.3 C in Hachioji, Tokyo; 39.0 C in Kiryu, Gunma Prefecture; and 38.4 C in Toyama City. Temperatures of 35 C or more were recorded in a number of locations across a large area, mainly in the Kanto region.
