
Temperatures rose across Japan on Tuesday due to a high pressure system.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the temperature reached 40.1 C at 1:07 p.m. in Isesaki, Gunma Prefecture. It was the first time this year that the temperature has topped 40 C.
As of 12:40 p.m., the highest temperature was 39.3 C in Hachioji, Tokyo; 39.0 C in Kiryu, Gunma Prefecture; and 38.4 C in Toyama City. Temperatures of 35 C or more were recorded in a number of locations across a large area, mainly in the Kanto region.
The Japan Meteorological Agency and others have issued heatstroke alerts for eight prefectures, including Tokyo and Saitama.
